Being raised in a diverse community like Hialeah, Florida, I grew up with a deep appreciation for Latin American arts and culture.I had the opportunity to travel from a young age and gradually developed an awareness of the societal differences between the West and the Global South. This resulted in an affinity for world history and culture, which has only grown since my enrollment in AUP as an art history major. I joined DÉPAYSANTS not only as a learning opportunity for myself, but to give exposure to the diverse and passionate creative community in Paris that I’ve come to love.

From a young age, I’ve always been drawn to art and design and finding the beauty in ordinary things. In my teens I discovered my passion for media and sharing it to others, whether through video, photography or writing. Majoring in Journalism and minoring in Art History allows me to both explore the beauty of art and learn to communicate to masses. I grew up moving around from Chicago to Greenwich, CT to Omaha, NE and I’m ecstatic to now be in Paris to continue to cultivate my love for art, design and fashion with DÉPAYSANTS.

My interest in Art History began wandering around the museums of New York City, where I grew up. In high school I took darkroom classes at the International Center of Photography which further deepened my passion for art.

I've always been interested in art from growing up doing the studio arts to deciding to study art history when i came to Paris. I have always loved the intricacies of art and I decided to join DÉPAYSANTS as an opportunity to learn and be involved with the creative process art can give. As someone who hopes to curate in the future, DÉPAYSANTS lets me find and interact with the creative minds of Paris.

With planning on majoring in Global Communications, DÉPAYSANTS was the perfect place to further dive into the publishing and digital creating world. With previous experience in creating my school's yearbook in past school years, I found my love of being a part of a creative driven group that produced a publication telling stories through photography and art entirely student made. Being a first year student at AUP from California, I am excited to learn and grow within DÉPAYSANTS, sharing and meeting the creative student minds of Paris.

Being an artist in this day and age can be a real struggle. I had a very tough time figuring out how I wanted to showcase my creativity and still keep up with modern times. Graphic design has allowed me to meld the practical and creative side of myself. Although I’m only in Paris for a year, I can’t wait to be surrounded by the creative minds of tomorrow and empower them to express their talent.
CONTENT EDITOR
Grace Gerstner
Hi, I’m Grace, I’m the content editor for DÉPAYSANTS this year! I’m a freshman from New York City and a journalism major with a design minor focusing on fashion. I love writing about music and fashion and am so excited to start working on the magazine. I can’t wait to hear everyone’s ideas on how Paris influences a change in your style while studying at AUP.

I love art and many of its mediums — in my free time you’ll find me creating just about anything, from video edits of archival footage, screenplays, paintings, drawings, or photographs. With a keen interest in history of art and cinema, Paris is the ideal location to explore both. Paris is a city of youthquakers, and at DÉPAYSANTS, I hope to give a platform to the young, creative communities that enrich the streets of Paris.
HEAD OF SOCIAL MEDIA
Rona Phi (@ronaphi)
I grew up in a country where art is undervalued, that being one reason why I see DÉPAYSANTS as an essential opportunity to give support and a platform to young creatives. I studied Visual Arts in high school and have always enjoyed anything related to painting, graphics, culture, and film. With a plan to major in International Business Administration, I hope to integrate my love for design and the arts in general with my knowledge on marketing and management to help the magazine grow.
