Yvon Lambert Bookstore

ARTICLE BY MONICA MCMAHON

Many students like myself find themselves strolling through a new  city, looking for new and interesting places. Inevitably we’ll stumble upon the wide array of amazing sites and locations the city of Paris has to offer. There are what seems like endless museums, art galleries, vintage stores, and more, that allow us to embrace what Paris is widely known for.  Yvon Lambert is a bookstore located in the 11th arrondissement that has turned me into a regular visitor and shopper. Not just a simple book store, Yvon Lambert displays art exhibitions in a small gallery at the back of the store. When you first walk in, the store is beautifully displayed with books resting against walls and on tables, where at a quick glance a book of any title can catch your attention. If you walk directly back through a hallway flooded with books and framed paintings, you are led to an open white room where new artist exhibitions are constantly placed on display, so visitors can appreciate what the exhibition has to offer.

Currently, from October 6th to October 31st, 2021, DAVID HORVITZ « À PARIS » is being displayed. Seen in the image below, he chose two different mediums - paint and framed photographed images - to be on display at the gallery.

My favorite aspect of the store is the range of the content. I find myself immersed in photography collections, books, and magazines that I wouldn’t usually be interested in, allowing myself to grow my areas of interest and gain an understanding of unexplored subjects. Yvon Lambert serves as a great place where individuals can see art and culture displayed and embraced together in one place. Those of you reading DÉPAYSANTS may be interested in the many creative concepts an ideas that Yvon Lambert offers. The variety of texts being sold range from different architecture works, photojournalists and their collections, photography captured through different lenses, magazines addressing real-world issues such as the COVID-19 pandemic, Black Lives Matter movement, and the disadvantages of female artists. With such an eclectic range, the shop is bound to offer something fitting for everybody. Not to mention its tranquil environment is a great place for students to escape the hectic city and school, allowing appreciation and enjoyment of others’ works.
