For the past two school years, the DÉPAYSANTS magazine has had the pleasure of giving young creatives from The American University of Paris a platform to share their works and build professional portfolios. However, this semester the Spring 2021 editorial team decided to broaden the scope of young creatives to feature while also prioritizing AUP students and alumni. This semester I’ve had the honor to work with a passionate team and talented artists while making this issue. As you look through Issue 3, I hope that you take the time to analyze and appreciate the talent behind each work featured. Even through a global pandemic the human spirit and creativity remain unshaken.

The focus of this issue is to display artists from a variety of media, everything from pencil on paper to make up to woodcuts. Our goal is to highlight the many contemporary forms art can take and with many artists featured being young university students or recently graduated, these are the creative minds who will shape the future of the art world. While initially receiving submissions I was excited with what I saw and the curation process for this issue was delightful. My hope is that this issue will showcase the best from this talented pool of artists. I’m more than excited to see what the future holds for these creative minds and this magazine.

This semester I was presented with the opportunity to take this publication into the future, a daunting task considering the big shoes I had to fill. My predecessor, Antonio Gabriél Martinez founded the DÉPAYSANTS intending to curate the best there is. I hope I can fulfill his vision and continue to build upon the foundation he set for this magazine. Special thanks to Antonio and the Spring 2021 editorial team who, despite speed bumps, persisted and helped create this Issue. I would also like to thank the artists who entrusted the editorial team to display their phenomenal work. For the next year, I hope to continue to grow this publication and help it reach its fullest potential. I also hope that you stay tuned for what's coming next.
