Selected Works: Naomi Greene

Living in Paris and in three different states: New York, Ohio et Massachusetts, Naomi Greene (1998) portrays the importance of archival art and the influence of black American abstract expressionism. In contemporary art discourses we are constantly experimenting with ways to portray lived experiences to the viewer. Her pieces manifest this as she creates spontaneous abstract paintings as a reaction to past memories and personal experiences. This is transcribed and embodied by the techniques of abstract painting, repurposing imagery, and the repetitive practice of screen printing. Fluctuating between two cultures : African American and French, she is in search of defining the process of change and adaptation. Her paintings are the results of co-existence of an experimental creative process of fragmentation and reconstruction.
