Since graduating from AUP, alumna Annabelle Hutter has created her own fashion brand with sustainability at the forefront of its philosophy. Read more about her brand, Born on Saturday, below.

Painting the world greener, one cool tote at a time.

We create cozy, colourful cotton canvas totes out of GRS and Oeko-Tex certified 100% recycled cotton fabric. Our totes are uniquely designed, easy to wear with a soft hand-feel.

Say hello to our one-of-a-kind 100% Recycled Cotton.

Our cotton canvas totes are the first of its kind in the market due to the simple fact that they are made out of 100% recycled cotton. This recycled cotton fabric, RCO100, is made from pre-consumer cotton, textile waste and leftovers from fabric production. We spin this waste, collected from over 100 sources in 3 countries, into strong staple fibers with impeccable quality on par with virgin cotton. Not only is this officially verified, but also when these recycled fibers are woven together, they create the highest quality of sturdiness and durability, perfect for daily use.

Our roots matter.

Our 100% recycled cotton fibers are directly produced from pre- consumer cotton waste stemming from the apparel, home furnishing and bed sheet industry. Furthermore, we implement textile waste and leftovers from fabric production into our fibers. Today’s technology allows us to gradually blend in post-consumer waste. Out of this waste, we make treasure. We save and reuse what would otherwise be discarded to be burned or dumped in landfills.

Think Green, Be Green.

With a better product, comes better transparency. We believe that it is our responsibility to open up the conversation about sustainable textiles and discuss the importance of a circular economy with everyone; our Born on Saturday totes leading by example.

Improving the circular economy, one tote at a time.

Recycled cotton is good, 100% recycled cotton is even better. In comparison to virgin cotton, recycled cotton is believed to reduce climate impact by over 75%. The 100% recycled cotton that we use for each tote minimises water used and lessens environmental pollution. Our 100% recycled cotton plays a vital role in the circular economy, utilising resources already available rather than destroying the planet further to create new resources.

This isn’t too good to be true, this is both good and true.

All Born on Saturday tote bags are both GRS and Oeko-Tex certified. The GRS certificate verifies the social, environmental and chemical practices in production. Oeko-Tex standards, as well as GRS, have to be met through extensive testing and processes, ensuring maximum consumer safety, responsibility for the planet and future generations.

We have great relationships with our spinning and weaving suppliers in Turkey as well as our small scale family-owned bag manufacturer in Thailand, ensuring no step gets lost along the way.

It takes one to know one.

We wanted to design a tote that looks good, feels good, and does good. Along with a dazzling pattern, we want to send a message to the world about recycling for a greener future.

Designed with the forward thinking customer in mind.

Born on Saturday was started with the customer and fabric at the core of our approach. We want to connect a person of any age, gender background, ethnicity; engaging with them and enabling them to understand this revolutionary fabric that gives back to the planet and our circular economy.

We also couldn’t find a canvas tote that is of high-quality fabric, truly sustainable, distinctively designed and ideal for every-day use: so we made one instead.

The golden ratio of tote construction.

  • A convenient strap length, not too long and not too short.

  • Thick, double layered strap in order to ensure comfortable wear.

  • Durable Panama weave construction which can carry anything from gadgets to groceries.

  • Inseams covered to limit wear and tear.

  • Natural garment water repellency, through a dense 4 ply weave.

  • Unique patterns and colors.

Our patterns, designed by local Thai illustrator Jeffrey Pangputhipong, celebrate the heritage of Thailand and Switzerland, the colors and eccentricities of life and nature. On either panel of the bag there is a pattern and a universal slogan. Both highlight the love for our planet.

Not just talk, but even more walk.

Born on Saturday isn’t just another tote bag, it is an honest lifestyle revolving around doing good for our planet. It’s a celebration of the love, innovation and creativity of the generations: past, present and future.

Born on Saturday is proud to be led by a female, Gen-Y entrepreneur who wishes to see less greenwashing, and more transparent and meaningful steps towards changes in the industry.

Join us on our journey towards shaping a greener planet: making better choices and choosing slow fashion.
